Hansel and Gretel short story before bedtime

Hansel and Gretel short story before bedtime

Once upon a time in a small cottage nestled at the edge of a dense forest, lived two siblings named Hansel and Gretel. They were known throughout the village for their lively spirits and boundless curiosity. But, like any other children, they too had their moments of bedtime mischief.

Every night, their mother would gather them around the fireplace, where the warmth and flickering flames created the perfect ambiance for bedtime stories. “It’s bedtime, my little ones,” their mother would say, her voice soft and soothing. “Would you like to hear a story before sleep?”

Without fail, Hansel and Gretel would eagerly nod their heads, their eyes gleaming with anticipation. Their favorite stories at bedtime were always the ones filled with adventure, magic, and a touch of mystery. And so, on one particularly cool and starry night, their mother began a tale that would become their all-time favorite: “Hansel and Gretel.”

“Once upon a time, in a land much like our own,” their mother began, “there lived two siblings named Hansel and Gretel.”

Hansel and Gretel’s ears perked up, and they snuggled deeper into their cozy blankets, ready for the magical journey their mother’s storytelling would take them on.

“Hansel and Gretel lived in a small cottage with their loving father and stepmother,” their mother continued. “One year, a terrible famine struck the land, and the family found themselves struggling to put food on the table.”

The children’s eyes widened with empathy, and they listened intently as their mother spun the tale.

“In the midst of their hunger, Hansel and Gretel overheard their stepmother’s wicked plan. She wanted to abandon them in the deep, dark forest to save herself from sharing their meager rations.”

Hansel and Gretel gasped in disbelief. How could someone be so heartless?

“But Hansel, being clever and resourceful, had overheard their stepmother’s plan. That night, he sneaked out of the house and filled his pockets with bread, leaving a trail of breadcrumbs behind him as he ventured into the woods with Gretel.”

The children leaned forward, eager to hear more about their brave counterparts, Hansel and Gretel.

“As the moonlit night turned darker and colder, Hansel and Gretel stumbled upon a wondrous sight. There, in the heart of the forest, they discovered a cottage made entirely of candy, gingerbread, and sweets.”

Hansel and Gretel’s eyes sparkled with excitement. They could almost taste the candies and sweets in their own mouths.

“They couldn’t resist their temptation and began nibbling on the candy windowsills and gumdrop door knob. But little did they know that the cottage belonged to a wicked witch with a taste for children.”

The children gasped again, their imaginations running wild.

“The witch trapped Hansel in a cage, intending to fatten him up before devouring him. Gretel, though frightened, used her wit and cunning to outsmart the witch. She tricked the witch into checking the oven to see if it was hot enough to cook Hansel, and then, with a mighty shove, Gretel pushed the wicked witch into the oven herself.”

Hansel and Gretel cheered in their hearts. What a brave sister Gretel was!

“The oven door slammed shut, and the evil witch met her fiery fate. With the witch defeated, Hansel and Gretel found their way back home, laden with precious jewels and treasures from the witch’s lair.”

As their mother’s voice lowered to a gentle lullaby, the children drifted into sweet slumber, their dreams filled with gingerbread houses, candy canes, and the adventures of Hansel and Gretel.

In the morning, as the sun’s rays painted the sky with hues of orange and pink, Hansel and Gretel awoke, their hearts still aglow with the magic of their bedtime story. They hugged their mother and promised to be as brave and clever as their fairy tale counterparts.

And so, the tradition continued. Every night, before bedtime, Hansel and Gretel would request the same story, relishing the thrilling adventures of the two siblings who, like them, were brave, clever, and always ready for a new bedtime story time adventure.
